Generational Discussion Groups

JAMP hosts online meetings of Japanese Americans from the third, fourth, and fifth generations and shin nikkei (Japanese Americans who emigrated to the US after WWII) where participants discuss topics such as identity, history, and memory. As opposed to in-person pilgrimages, these virtual discussions allow Japanese Americans to connect without the expense and inconvenience of travel.

Shin-Nikkei Meet Up

If you or your ancestors emigrated from Japan following World War II, we invite you to join our next Shin-Nikkei community gathering. This session provides an opportunity to share your family's experiences and engage in meaningful dialogue about contemporary Japanese American identity. Hosted by JAMP board member, Amanda Roper.

Sansei Meet Up

This group is for people who identify as sansei (third generation). These monthly 90-minute Zoom sessions are designed to foster community connection and provide supportive spaces for peer dialogue. Lead by volunteer facilitators Anne Tsuneishi and Dale Yuzuki. Meetings are the fourth Sunday of every month at 3p PT / 7p ET.

Anne is a Heart Mountain descendant who was born and raised in the San Fernando Valley. She is a retired school principal currently living in Tacoma, WA. Dale says, “I'm Dale, and my daughter literally wrote the book on our family - like, an actual published book about my dad at Tule Lake - while I was over here just roasting coffee beans and pretending I had my act together. Dad went through Jerome and Tule Lake, mom survived the atomic bomb, I survived getting a brown belt in judo as a kid and have been coasting ever since, so I'm here to learn and give back to this community.”

Yonsei Meet Up

If your grandparents were the first generation born outside of Japan and you identify as fourth generation (yonsei), we invite you to join our community dialogue. This forum will explore topics including identity, community, and generational trauma, providing a space for meaningful exchange among peers navigating shared experiences. Hosted by JAMP board members Ian Martyn and Katie Fujiye Nuss Louis. Meetings are the third Sunday of every month at 4p PT / 7p ET.

Gosei Meet Up

This group is for anyone who identifies as 5th generation Japanese (your great-great grandparents emigrated from Japan before WWII).

Currently we are gauging interest in this group. If you are gosei and would like a virtual space to meet with other gosei, please let us know! Email us at info@jampilgrimages.org.
